CFO at the helm when controlling social returns. Search for the Chief Value Officers of 2024

AMSTERDAM – Starting today, the nominations have been opened for the ‘Chief Value Officer of the Year’ Award 2024, the award for the most impact-driven CFOs in the Netherlands. As European sustainability rules change companies at their heart, the award places the emphasis on the CFOs that guide their businesses through this transformation as ambitious as possible. The Chief Value Officer (CVO) of the Year award puts the new leaders (CFOs) who are at the forefront.

Climate, biodiversity and well-being were stormed into the boardroom in 2024. European sustainability rules (such as the CSRD and the SFDR) require companies to report transparently. In Europe, these rules apply to more than 50,000 companies. Werner Schouten, director of the Impact Economy Foundation, emphasizes the importance of these developments: “A duty reporting and setting clear sustainability goals are essential, but reporting alone does not change the world. True change in corporate governance is driven by the leadership of the CFO. These financial directors are the captains who navigate their companies to a new definition of success. From growth to flowering.”

“With a new look at value, from financial to social, CFOs can redefine
success and shift the company’s direction. The CFO is the right person
for this change. Financial directors have the tools available to make
social impact top priority in decisions in addition to financial value.
The CFOs that are leading in this are true Chief Value Officers.”

CVO of the Year

The ‘Chief Value Officer of the Year’ Award highlights the pioneers among the CFOs who guide their organizations (with more than 250 employees) based on social impact alongside financial value. These leaders strive for minimum social costs and maximum societal benefits, and are committed to innovative and regenerative business models. They also do not do this alone, but they take other directors, organizations and even entire sectors with them to put impact at the center.Schouten: “By putting the leaders for the new economy, the Impact Economy, in the spotlight, we are shifting the standard for impact in the boardrooms in the Netherlands. This is how we create a race to the top for broad prosperity!”

Winners edition 2023

The CVO of the Year Award was awarded to five CFOs in 2023. One of the winning CFOs was Vivienne de Leeuw van Havenbedrijf Rotterdam: “The CVO of the Year Award has motivated me to continue to take on and also to be able to enthuse others. It has given the recognition that the approach to do it first and then report on it will work, especially in a port and industrial environment.”
